A total of 36 million 80% silver round 50c pieces were produced in 1966 to supply the Australian public with new decimal currency. Silver prices rose towards the end of 1966, causing the Royal Australian Mint to stop producing the round 50c.
Due to the large mintage, rounds are traded for their silver value at the current bullion price.
