De Grey Mining Selects Metso for Hemi Gold Project Equipment Supply in Australia

February 19, 2024

De Grey Mining, an Australian gold exploration and development company, has recently announced that they have chosen Metso, a leading industrial company, to supply equipment for their Hemi gold project in Western Australia. The equipment includes a Superior MKIII 50-65 primary gyratory crusher and two 14MW Premier ball mills, with a total cost of over $32 million.

The Hemi gold project, a significant undertaking for De Grey Mining, aims to deliver a Tier 1 gold project and establish one of the top five gold mines in Australia in terms of production. To achieve this, the project will have a state-of-the-art process circuit equipped with advanced technologies and proven equipment.

The Superior MKIII primary gyratory crusher, provided by Metso, will play a crucial role in Hemi’s processing circuit. This high-performance crusher will serve as the driving force behind the entire circuit, ensuring efficient and effective processing of the gold ore. Additionally, the two Premier ball mills will enhance the grinding performance and availability of the concentrator, further optimizing the overall process.

De Grey Mining’s managing director, Glenn Jardine, expressed his satisfaction with the partnership, stating, “We’ve just partnered with Metso in delivering the first key items for the process circuit, namely the primary gyratory and ball mills, and we’re looking to make the rest of the process equipment decisions soon.” This indicates that De Grey Mining is considering further collaboration with Metso to meet their future process equipment requirements.

Kai Rönnberg, the Vice President of Minerals for Metso Asia Pacific, emphasized the significance of the Superior MKIII primary gyratory crusher and Premier ball mills in Hemi’s processing circuit. He stated, “The Superior MKIII primary gyratory crusher would be the driving force of Hemi’s entire processing circuit… the two Premier ball mills will provide optimized grinding performance and the highest availability for the concentrator.”

Rönnberg also highlighted Metso’s commitment to customer service, mentioning its extensive footprint in Australia. He added, “In terms of servicing our customers when plants are operational, Metso also has an extensive footprint in Australia…

The Karratha Service Centre will be able to support our customers, as well as the Hemi plant, with the latest technologies and sustainable aftermarket solutions.” This highlights Metso’s dedication to providing advanced technologies and sustainable solutions to support their customers throughout the operational lifespan of the equipment.

With the equipment order worth over $32 million and the support of Metso’s Karratha Service Centre, De Grey Mining is well-positioned to advance its Hemi gold project and achieve its goal of creating a top-tier gold mine in Australia. The partnership between De Grey Mining and Metso is expected to drive the success of the project and contribute to the growth of the Australian gold mining industry.
